An abacus is a simple yet powerful mathematical tool used for performing arithmetic calculations. It consists of a rectangular frame with rows of beads or counters that can be moved back and forth on rods or wires. Each row represents a different place value, such as units, tens, hundreds, etc.

To perform calculations on an abacus, you slide the beads to represent numbers and then manipulate them through addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division by moving beads accordingly. The abacus is a versatile and efficient tool that has been used for centuries in various cultures around the world, especially before the widespread use of modern calculators and computers.
